I Had Cooties

My poor husband is now suffering from my cooties. It seems that he finally caught whatever I had and has now spent the past couple of days in a germ-infested stupor. I tried to persuade him to pay a visit to our family doctor to get some cootie-fighting antibiotics, but the brave soul is trying to fight it alone with Nyquil and lots of sleep. I hate Nyquil, I usually feel worse after I take it and it makes me have nightmares. I'm sorry Mike ended up getting sick, but I'm thankful that we were sick at different times because two people sick and cranky together in the same house is just misery. Maybe this means we'll both be healthy by the time our vacation rolls around in only a few weeks.

Speaking of which, because of the onslaught of hurricanes, a few of the cruise ships have been changing their itinerary. One of those ships, the Explorer of the Seas, is the one on which we'll be sailing. We were supposed to stop in Belize City, Belize, Costa Maya, Mexico, Cozumel, Mexicao and Grand Cayman, but Grand Cayman is still in the midst of reconstruction. It will be interesting to see where we end up!

Breakfast with the King

Has anyone out there seen Burger King's most recent commercial advertising their new double meat, double cheese breakfast sandwich (which, in case anyone was wondering, looks about as good for you as McDonald's McGriddle sandwich)? Well, if you haven't, keep your eyes peeled for it if you are interested in seeing possibly one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. The king in the commercial is just plain scary-looking. I don't think anything gives me the heebie-jeebies as much as the king, except for possibly eels and clowns.

Wine Fest

Well, those antibiotics are starting to do their stuff and I'm finally starting to not feel the need to sleep so much, so Mike and I decided to head to the Wine Fest in North East, PA after we finished our dinner last night. Actually, after dinner I curled up on the couch and attempted to take a nap, but Mike cajoled me to wake up and get ready to go. I was reluctant at first, but eventually thankful, because it was nice to get out on such a nice fall night. It seemed like there was a good turnout at the Wine Fest while we were there last night and the air out there smelled like grapes, which I've always loved. The only complaint about the festival is that our area wineries don't seem to produce any wine for the dry red lovers. If you are a fan of sweet whites and fruity blushes, then the wine fest is the place for you. My husband and I both prefer the dry reds, so we were pretty limited to just sampling cabernets at the different wine vendor tables because that was the only dry red most of them had. Overall, Mike and I had a good time, since it was so nice out and it was a lot of fun to do something a little different than just sleep!

Under the Weather

I've been feeling a little under the weather for the past month or so. I've had a persistent sore throat, have been a little congested, and have been excessively tired even though I get eight hours of sleep every night. Many evenings I need to take a nap and my eyes still droop close around 9:30 pm. I finally bucked up and went to see my doctor yesterday afternoon. They took a strep throat culture (I've had strep throat seven or eight times during my life), gave me a Rx for an antibiotic, and I have to go have bloodwork done tomorrow. I'm hoping after these antibiotics start to kick in, I'll have a little more energy instead of just feeling exhausted everyday.

Bad PSU and the Marathon Man

Another good weekend is behind us. The weather here was gorgeous and extremely welcome after the weather that the remainder of hurricane Frances blew through our area last weekend. Saturday night, Mike and I spent the evening at the Fox and the Hound crying into our beers as we watched Boston College smack Penn State around. I was really hoping after the Akron game that maybe this season would be different fr0m the past few, but unfortunately I think that is not the case. The only good thing about us having a poor season will be that hotel prices will drop when we all go to our annual football game. This year we chose a later game as opposed to an early one. We're going to the last game of the season at the end of November against Michigan State. Last year was a blast and this year we've rounded up a few more people and are making a few more plans regarding tailgating, so I think this year will only be even better.

Sunday, Mike and I went to watch our good friend and my old college roommate , Tony, run in the Presque Isle marathon down at the peninsula. It was interesting to watch, especially the people who cross the finish line puking. Tony, however, was not one of those people. He had his best time yet, 3 hours and 42 minutes. Mike and I think that Tony should be the focus of either a Nike commercial or a beer commercial. He ran a marathon, took a swim in the lake, and drank a Yuengling all before 11 am.

One Small Step Closer to 30

I just wanted to wish a happy belated blog birthday to my husband, Mike, who celebrated his birthday yesterday. I won't say how old he is, I'll just say that he's on the downward slide to the big 3-o. We had a nice dinner at Porter's Tap Room located in the old train station in downtown Erie. It was the first time we had been there for food, not just drinks. The atmosphere was excellent but the food was kind of par, as was the waitstaff. All I have to say is he's lucky I took him there and not someplace where I could have made him wear a silly hat and had all of the waitstaff come out to the table to sing and clap. I am a good wife who was able to control that urge.

Back to the Grind

Well, it's back to the grind of work after a three-day holiday weekend. But it was a very good holiday weekend full of a mix of fun and much need rest for Mike and I.

Saturday we headed down to the hoopla of the G. Dubya rally at Veteran's Stadium. We thought we'd be fair and balanced by going to see him speak since we went to see John Kerry speak when he was in Erie in May and plan on seeing him speak again if he and Edwards decide to swing into town sometime in the next 56 days. Although I don't agree with the President, it was kind of exhilerating to see one of the most powerful men in the world only 20 yards in front of me. He's a better speaker in person than how he comes across over television. It was interesting that Mike had on a white t-shirt under a polo and security made him lift up his polo to show them that his white t-shirt did not have anything derogatory written on it.

Saturday night we went to a Labor Day party at our friend Heather's new house and we spent all of Sunday morning and a good portion of Sunday afternoon recovering from that party. Sunday afternoon we went to a Labor Day picnic at my parents' house and played six-handed pinochle with them and my grandparents all day, men vs. women.

On Monday we went golfing with my dad and then went back to my parents' house for picnic food leftovers where I literally ate until I hurt and ended up waking up with a food hangover this morning, if that's possible, which was kind of gross. It's hard to believe it's the end of summer.
