Oldies But Goodies

In tribute to all the money I'm going to be spending in the next couple of months on all the eagerly anticipated new releases from Weezer, Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, and the White Stripes, I've been giving a spin to some of my old favorites that I haven't listened to in years. In the past week, I've listened to Weezer's Blue Album, Green Day's Dookie, Nine Inch Nails Downward Spiral, and Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dreams. It's kind of weird listening to some of it, because that music is pretty much the soundtrack to my high school years. It actually brought back memories of things that I had completely forgotten about.

On another music sidenote, last week we picked up the Killers CD Hot Fuss, and it's pretty good. The last two songs are little dull, but otherwise really good. I see why U2 chose them to open some of the shows on their tour this year (aside from the fact that both bands are with Island Records). Some it kind of reminds me of early U2, such as some cuts from Boy, October, and War.

I'm not familiar with most of the bands you mention, other than Dave Matthews, and what was that other one.... Oh, Green Day. Isn't that an old group who was popular in the mid-to-late 90's? Haven't heard much from them since about 1997. Right??

Yes, you are correct on Green Day...you most likely remember Dookie as the album you probably secretly wanted to rip out the tape player while you carted around your 15 year old daughter and her fifty thousand 15 year old friends singing the lyrics at the top of their lungs :)
