Back From Chi-Town

Well, this evening we just arrived back home from yet another wedding. This time it was Mike's cousin, Stephanie, in Chicago who got married to her now-husband Walter. It's just been one Hallmark moment after another recently. It was a fun weekend where we had the opportunity to spend time with members of Mike's family that we don't have a chance to see very often and we also had fantastic steak dinners (we were in Chicago, afterall!). However, I've been really under the weather with a horrible cold that finally caught Mike this weekend, so our co-illness kind of hindered us a little. The wedding ceremony was really sweet and simple, the reception was a lot of fun with some good music and food, but we're also both glad to be home where we can take our cold medicine and feel crappy in peace.

Quarter Century Club

Happy birthday to me! It's my 25th birthday today, though my husband and I have been having fun celebrating it all weekend. I've never been just a one day birthday celebrating kind of person. I like to spread it all out. Kind of the Hanukkah approach to birthdays, I suppose. Anyway, it's off to my parents house shortly for a big birthday meal, a big fat steak and baked potatoes. Yum yum!

Congrats Part Deux

Marriage is just in the freakin' air, I guess. Starting this weekend, we have three wedding weekends in a row to attend. Whew! A nuptial bonanza. But congrats go out tonight to the very brand new Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Nordin (Lew and Kelly). The had a nice ceremony tonight at Holy Rosary and a fun reception following afterwards. Mike and I had the chance to catch up with quite a few people we hadn't seen in awhile and will hopefully see more of in the future.

Congrats!

A big congrats goes out to Shelly and Dave, the future Mr. and Mrs. Novack! Dave suprised Shelly by proposing to her this weekend onstage at Sherlock's during the One Sweet World show this past Saturday and it was great. I'm so happy for the both of them! They have such a fun year in front of them.

I'm a Tiger Now

Roar...I'm a tiger now. Not really. But I do have stripes! I got some blond highlights put in tonight by my hairstylist and I'm pretty excited about them. There was a big rule by my parents while I was growing up that I was NOT allowed to dye my hair. I mean, I dyed a little streak of my hair red with Kool-Aid when I was a sophomore in high school and all hell broke loose. So tonight's hair extravaganza was kind of a big deal for me and also for my hairstylist, who had good time playing with "virgin" hair.

Unimpressed by the Presidential Hopeful

John Kerry made a stop in town today on his campaign trail and my husband and I decided to go see him speak at the airport. It was interesting to attend, but did not make me like him anymore as a canidate, and I'm a registered Democrat. He was more than an hour late for his speech, which I thought was terrible. Half of the crowd left before he began because he had everyone waiting so long in 80+ degree heat. His speech was generic and I overheard one of his entourage tell another that the speech that he had made at the other location he stopped at in town earlier in the day was also really generic. Overall, I wasn't very impressed. I hope he'll be able to find a real platform in the upcoming months. It seems to me that up until now, he's been more interested in being an attack dog against the Republican party than a presidential canidate. I wish we had more choices in canidates in November.

Adios Amigos

I can't believe tomorrow night is the final Friends episode! I'm not usually a crier when it comes to movies or TV shows, but I think I'm already in trouble. I can't even watch the commerical for it without getting all choked up when they show the empty purple couch at Central Perk.

Jack White is a Future Guitar God

Did anyone happen to catch Jack White with Loretta Lynn on the David Letterman show last night performing "Portland, Oregon" off of her new CD? WOOO BOY! It was fantastic! My husband and I were fortunate enough to see the White Stripes in Cleveland this past year and it was one of the best shows I had seen in a long time and I've seen a lot of shows. Definitely top five, right up there with Beastie Boys and oddly enough, the Violent Femmes.
